Know your equipment, exercises, sets, reps and rest time – don’t just estimate. Know your goals – what do I want from every workout long term and short term? Know your resistance settings what weight will i need on the bar? What dumb bells?
Get your mind out of the office and into what you are doing. Think ahead, set up next exercises in your rest time between sets instead of fumbling round the free weights area watching the music channel – it all saves time and you will fit your whole routine in your allocated time.

The traditional basic exercises that I use as a personal trainer are efficient uses of time and muscle, they are compound exercises that involve all main muscle groups: they will improve your strength, endurance and your coordination and they burn huge amounts of calories. They are exercises that have stood the test of time with little or no change in their mechanics or usage so keeping it simple and efficient is the back to basic approach.
